The World Championship Cow Chip Throw is held here each April. -Oklahoma is tribal headquarters for 39 Native American tribes. -April 22, 1889 was the first day homesteading was permitted. On that date, 50,000 people swarmed into the area. Those who tried to beat the noon starting time were called Sooners.
