This week in history #4

Last week's photos:
Poe 1809
Nautilus 1954
Concorde 1976
Roe 1973

Last year we looked at obscure holidays. This year, let’s look at major world events that occurred each week.  Make your best guess in the comments as to the years of each event.  No googling!

For the fourth week of January

January 23, ____ - Elizabeth Blackwell became America's first woman doctor.

January 24, ____ - Japanese soldier Shoichi Yokoi was discovered hiding out on Guam, not knowing World War II had long since ended.

January 26, ____ - The British established a settlement and penal colony at Sydney Harbor in Australia, to relieve overcrowded prisons in England.

January 27, ____ - The Russian Army liberated Auschwitz death camp near Krakow in Poland.

  1. Australia Day, January 26... since 1788

Thank goodness Australia has a few special days at the start of the year because while I have heard of a few of the other events, I have no clue of the date, lol.
