Last year we looked at obscure holidays. This year, let’s look at major world events that occurred each week.  Make your best guess in the comments as to the years of each event.  No googling!

Week #8

February 22, ____ - In Montgomery, Alabama, 80 participants in the three-month-old bus boycott were arrested, including Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. Later that same year, the US Supreme Court mandated desegregation of the buses.

February 23, ____ - During World War II, the first attack on the US mainland occurred when a Japanese submarine shelled an oil refinery near Santa Barbara, California.

February 24, ____ - Pope Gregory XIII corrected mistakes on the Julian calendar. The new Gregorian calendar was then adopted by Catholic countries, followed by Protestant and other nations.

February 26, ____ - The Communist Manifesto was published by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

  1. No idea for most of these, except the submarine one must have been around 1942

  2. I hope you are safe, warm, dry, and have power.

Most of the Montgomery accounting came in 1955, not sure of this one because Claudia someone was the only one arrested after the boycott

.I believe the attack on California happened in 1943.

Gregor was around 1500, so the calendar came out around 1550.

The Communist Manifesto was, I think, published in 1849

    1. Safe, warm, somewhat dry, and yes power. It's been a crazy week tho. A bit of hail at my house.

Very close on all of these! Much closer than I would have been myself.

Hope you are doing well also.

    2. Thank you, I am close to fine. Summer seems to be coming a few months too early, and I have to call to make an appointment to get some Basal Cell Crap carved out.
