1915 The US Revenue Marine is renamed the US Coast Guard
 

1943 A wartime ban is introduced on the sale of pre-sliced bread in the United States, to save metal parts in slicing machines
 

1957 Three US Air Force jets complete a nonstop around-the-world flight, averaging over 500 miles per hour
 

1962 The United States begins spraying foliage with herbicides in South Vietnam, in order to reveal the whereabouts of Vietcong guerrillas
