1909 The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded
 

1924 President Calvin Coolidge made the first presidential radio speech

1980 The Winter Olympics open in Lake Placid New York
 

1999 The US Senate fails to pass two articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton. He had been accused of perjury and obstruction of justice by the House of Representatives.  President Clinton was acquitted by the Senate 55-45 on a perjury charge and 50-50 on an obstruction of justice charge.
