B is for Bill Cosby conviction overturned

This year's theme for my A-to-Z Blogging Challenge is Significant Events from 2021 and the first 3 months of 2022.

At the end of today's post is a teaser for Monday's C post.  Enjoy!

Bill Cosby's conviction was overturned on June 30, 2021.

April 26, 2018: Bill Cosby was convicted by a jury of three counts of aggravated indecent assault.  He was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison.

June 30, 2021: The Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed the conviction, and Cosby was released from prison at age 83.  The PA court ruled that Cosby was unfairly prosecuted because the previous district attorney had promised that he wouldn’t be charged over those accusations. Cosby was charged by another prosecutor who claimed he wasn’t bound by that previous agreement.

March 7, 2022: US Supreme Court declines to hear the appeal.  The State of Pennsylvania asked the Court to decide the question “Where a prosecutor publicly announces that he will not file criminal charges based on lack of evidence, does the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment transform that announcement into a binding promise that no charges will ever be filed, a promise that the target may rely on as if it were a grant of immunity?”

  3. Well, Cosby is pretty old now and his reputation has definitely been sullied. The entire ordeal was probably plenty of punishment as it was. I was never much of a Cosby fan, but his star certainly fell to an ignominious depth.

    1. His star definitely is tarnished, even with this court decision.

  4. Sad case, Mr. Cosby. I remember listening to his comedy album about his brother Russell when I was a kid.

  5. I think justice was sadly lost in this case.

C is for the Champlain Tower Collapse. I had friends there so will never forget, nor will I forgive our State Legislature for not addressing a safety protocol because they said it would cost too much.

  6. I apologize for not leaving a literary breadcrumb about C. There is some emotion there and it made me forget my promise to you.
