D is for Derek Chauvin found guilty of murder

This year's theme for my A-to-Z Blogging Challenge is Significant Events from 2021 and the first 3 months of 2022.

At the end of today's post is a teaser for tomorrow's E post.  Enjoy!

Derek Chauvin was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd on April 20, 2021.

On May 25, 2020, Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on the neck of George Floyd for 9 minutes while arresting him in Minneapolis MN, while Floyd said "I can't breathe."  Floyd died.  Black Lives Matter protests erupted throughout the US and the world.

[This was all occurring during a global pandemic.  So much for "stay at home" orders.]

On March 8, 2021, a jury began hearing evidence.

On April 20, 2021, the jury convicted Chauvin of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

On June 25, 2021, Chauvin was sentenced to 22-1⁄2 years in prison.

On December 15, 2021, Chauvin pleaded guilty to federal charges of violating George Floyd's right, and also of violating the rights of a 14-year old boy in 2017.

  1. Just when you start to think Justice is blind and deaf, something helpful happens.

    1. I'm impressed that you can write about, (for fun?) the same subject you are immersed in by profession. But that is because we love what we do, right? Women's language and culture is my thing and I wanted to finish the last A to Z I couldn't finish - on politics and women I think... with a bit of justice thrown in. But I just could not talk about justice or collective action. This month I am so devastated by what is happening in Europe that I am digging into my topic of personal history with relish as it keeps me away from the devastating news that seems to get worse each day.

    2. Something helpful indeed.

And I think you're on the wrong side of the planet for Wednesday.

  2. This was a tragic situation. I absolutely hated the absurd response to the event, but chaos seems to be typical response for people who are bent on the destruction of society.

Your post tomorrow looks like a recent discovery that made the news. Makes me chilled to think about it.
