E is for Endurance

This year's theme for my A-to-Z Blogging Challenge is Significant Events from 2021 and the first 3 months of 2022.

At the end of today's post is a teaser for tomorrow's F post.  Enjoy!

The Endurance, which sank in 1915 during Ernest Shackleton's exploration of Antarctica, was found on March 5, 2022.

On November 21, 1915, the Endurance sank off the coast of Antarctica, after being crushed by moving ice.  The crew escaped to Elephant Island, where they were rescued on August 30, 1916 [in the middle of the Antarctic winter.  Brrrr!].

On March 5, 2022, the shipwreck was discovered, mostly intact, at a depth of 3000 meters in the Weddell Sea.

  1. I missed this one by more than half a world, counting elevations. I even watched the big to-do about it on the History channels. My brain just didn't point that way.

Tomorrow: I think I got turned off about it when Frito-Lay got insistent that I like them there.

  2. I heard about this recently. I recall seeing a documentary about this story some time ago. It's a pretty amazing story.
