This week in history #10

Last week's photos:
1781 Articles of Confederation
1681 King Charles II / Pennsylvania
1789 First Congress
1778 Boston Massacre

Last year we looked at obscure holidays. This year, let’s look at major world events that occurred each week.  Make your best guess in the comments as to the years of each event.  No googling!

Week #10

March 6, ____ - Fort Alamo fell to Mexican troops led by General Santa Anna.

March 10, ____ - The first issue of U.S. government paper money occurred as $5, $10 and $20 bills began circulation.

March 10, ____ - The Salvation Army was founded in the United States. The social service organization was first founded in England by William Booth and operates today in 90 countries.

  1. No clue on the US ones, but I'll take a stab at Bermuda...maybe late 1600's??

  2. The Alamo fell around 1863

Congress passed the law about paper money in 1862

The Salvation Army was already established to respond to the 1900 Galveston Hurricane, so it started around 1880

  3. Wrong button

Bermuda was grabbed by Britain around 1640.

I hope you remain safe, warm, dry, and with power.

So far so good. More rain coming next week. Good news is the drought is mostly gone. Bad news is there's a bunch of damage throughout the state. We simply can't handle this much water in such a short period of time. Ugh.

Hope you and yours are doing good in the Sunshine State.
