A to Z Blogging Challenge 2016 Theme Reveal

This year for A to Z Challenge,

My theme is MILITARY DEFINITIONS, hopefully with a little humor.  So each day in the month of April [except Sundays], check here for a post on the letter of the day.

Background: My #1 son is almost 22yo and enlisted in the Navy when he was 18. He has 1-1/2 years left of his 5 year commitment. As of today, he plans to re-enlist for another 5 years. He is a Seabee, a Construction Electrician. He has been deployed overseas twice. His current rank is E-4, a Petty Officer Third Class.

Disclaimer: I'm a Navy Mom. I've never been in the military. All I know I learned on the internet and from my son. So although I've tried to give accurate definitions, I don't guarantee these are perfect. But I learned a lot and had fun writing these 26 posts, and I hope you do too.

I cruised around the internet to find an appropriate and fun site to include on this Theme Reveal post, and found this one.

Surprise Military Homecomings

Enjoy

  1. If your courtroom definitions from last year are anything to go by, this year's posts are going to be a lot of fun as well as an education. I'm looking forward to it, Dena! :)

  2. I will be following your postings yet again this year. My son wanted to be a CB but didn't make in the program. He just left the Navy after 8 years and is looking to his next chapter in life.

    1. What rating did your son sign up for? My son rethinks his CB decision every once in a while. The last time he was thinking about a transfer to EOD. I'd definitely rather him stay a CB!

  3. I enjoyed your A-Z last year, so look forward to this year, Dena. The Hub was (Aussie) military for 12 years and is now a civvy in Defence, so I'm also curious to see what's similar/different between the two.

    1. I did learn some differences between the different countries' militaries when I was researching my posts. I kept mostly to US tho. Hope you find the differences / similarities interesting.

  4. That's an interesting theme. My brother was in the Navy and it had him traveling around the world.

    1. Yep, my son has been overseas twice, to three different locations. He speaks five languages [three fluent, two passable] and learned a bit of a sixth while he was deployed. What was your brother's rating?

  7. I had an elder family member in the Navy, he had the most intriguing stories to tell :) Great choice of theme! Best of luck with the challenge,

  9. What a cool idea. My brother enlisted in the Marines almost 2 years ago and I learned a lot just going to his graduation from Paris Island. This is my first year doing the challenge. I will be checking back in throughout April to see your posts! Cassie from Mommy, RN
