This week in history #1

Last week's photos:
December 26 – Candy Cane Day
December 27 – Fruitcake Day

Last year we looked at obscure holidays. This year, let’s look at major world events that occurred each week.  Make your best guess in the comments as to the years of each event.  No googling!

For the first week of January

January 1, ____ - The Commonwealth of Australia was founded.

January 1, ____ - Eleven European nations began using the Euro, a new single European currency.

January 7, ____ - The Bank of North America, the first U.S. commercial bank, opened in Philadelphia.

January 8, ____ - Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi.

  1. The commonwealth of Australia was the darling of the 20th century becoming an age of enlightenment when formed in 1901

The Euro spent three years being circulated through banks before the big push into the public's hands. So I guess you mean 2002.

I think the bank became the North American bank in 1863, though it had been around since the 1780s

The first wife was an Elvis freak. Most of the walls of the house had Elvis stuff on them, so I know he was born in 1935.

    1. First and last are correct. For the middle two, use the earlier dates. That makes you 100%. Congrats!

  2. I would be embarrassed if I didn't know the first (1901), but no clue for the rest.
