This year for the A-to-Z Challenge, I'll be looking at major events that happened in 2020 [the year we would all like to forget, so let's look at it first, before flushing it down the toilet].
Welcome to H! We're looking at – HAND SANITIZER.
CDC instructions are that we should keep our hands away from our face and wash them, with soap, frequently throughout the day because soap neutralizes this coronavirus. For essential workers with frequent public contact, the recommendation is to wash every 30 minutes for 20 seconds, which is the time required to sing the Happy Birthday song to yourself twice.
Here's the CDC page on hand-washing
If you read the “recommended times during the day to wash your hands”, it basically would require most people to stand by a sink 24/7, except when sleeping. If you don't have access to a sink 24/7, you can use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Hand-sanitizer stations have popped up everywhere. I tried it once, and my hands broke out in a nasty rash. Not fun. So when I have a choice, I don't use the sanitizer.
Have you used hand sanitizer? Let us know in the comments.
Here's a teaser for tomorrow, letter I:
This was one of my subjects for today. I bought and used more last hand sanitizer year than I can ever recall.
ReplyDeleteMy family had never used it until 2020. Now some of us use it all the time.
DeleteI usually wash a lot my hands, but yeah, a bit more now ;)) I use hand sanitizer when I can't wash with soap and water.
ReplyDeleteQuilting Patchwork & Appliqué
It's good that we have the option when there's no soap and water.
DeleteIt was so hard to find hand sanitizer for so long. I gave up on looking for it, then came the warnings of snake oil type sanitizers that really didn't work.
ReplyDeleteI have just been washing my hands more often, and doing a better job of it. I also carry some of the alcohol pads used to clean a shot spot. I use them if I had to use a grocery type cart of a restroom door.
This is what I do now. Wash my hands more often and carry sanitizing wipes.
DeleteIt's interesting how many different types of sanitizer there are out there and how we have all become experts on which is too sticky or too strong-smelling. I keep a small bottle of lemon-scented Palmolive sanitiser in my bad at all times so I can clean my hands after getting off the bus.
ReplyDeleteYes, some of us are really experts in sanitizers! And that's smart to carry a small bottle with you.
DeleteI didn't use it much until about a year ago. Now everyday in work and at home!

Your experience is probably accurate for most of us!
DeleteYep, amazing that people find it difficult to wash their hands. Impeachment?
ReplyDeleteGood guess!
DeleteI have permanent eczema on my hands thanks to hand sanitiser. We have to sanitise our hands pretty much every time we enter a shop, so I use it all the time. I know soap and water is better, but obviously that isn't possible as you walk into a shop so I just live with sore hands.
ReplyDeleteOuch! There are a few shops here who require it, but for most it's optional. There's a dispenser at the doors but the customer has the choice to use it or not.
